Novenas to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Immaculate Conception in Woodside

DEC. 7—San Sebastian Church, Woodside, Queens, is holding a series of novena to mark the two big Marians feasts this month — the Our Lady of Guadalupe and  the Immaculate Conception — at the Convent Chapel of the Church from Nov. 29 to Dec. 7. Schedule on weekdays: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Sat. Dec. 3 from  3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Sun., Dec. 4 from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.. Novena  aims to pray for peace, in the world, in the family and in every heart by living  a consecrated life (union with God) through the intercession of Mother Mary.  The novena has a theme for each day — Mary Seat of Wisdom, Marian Multiplier,  Mary Reveals Her Name, Mary’s Purity, To Jesus through Mary, Mary’s Maternal  Love, John Paul II’s Marian Devotion, Mary and the Rosary and Consecration to  Mary. For details, call Pete or Del Mendoza at (718) 639-7084.

Jaycees’ Distinguished Service Award at Crowne Plaza Hotel La Guardia

DEC. 9—The Philippine-New York Junior Chamber of Commerce, Inc. will hold its  annual Distinguished Service Award and Presidential Gala to honor a leader that has shown continuous passion for the community and to celebrate the accomplishments of the Jaycees in 2005. It will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Crowne Plaza Hotel La Guardia, 104-04 Ditmars Boulevard, East Elmhurst, N.Y. Dinner-dance. Attire: Business or semi-formal. RSVP by Dec. 5 and pay $70. Showing of untold story of U.S. Army’s Filipino Infantry Regiments

DEC. 11—“An Untold Triumph,” the never-been-told story of the U.S. Army’s 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments, will be shown as a treat to the veterans, their families, supporters and the public at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. This award-winning 85-minute documentary (winner of Hawaii International Film Festival), produced by Noel Izon and narrated by actor Lou Diamond Phillips, illuminates the most important period in the history of Filipino-Americans. Cosponsored by the Philippine American Veterans Organization, Inc. (PAVO), the Philippine American Veterans Auxiliary, Inc. (PAVOA), the Sons, Daughters and Orphans of the Philippine American Veterans,
Inc. (SDO-PAV) and in cooperation with the Consulate General of the

War vets ‘Untold Triumph’docu showing at PhilCenter, NYC

DEC. 11—“An Untold Triumph,” the never-been-told story of the U.S. Army’s 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments will be shown from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. Winner of Audience Award in the Hawaii International Film Festival, the 85-minute documentary is narrated by Lou Diamond Phillips.

Simbang Gabi at the Chapel of San Lorenzo on Broome St., NYC

DEC. 16—The Chapel of San Lorenzo at 378 Broome Street (between Mulberry and Mott Streets) in Manhattan will host a series of Sambang Gabi starting Dec. 16 with the New York Madrigals performing in a concert. This year’s theme is “Filipino ‘Diaspora’ Spirituality.” The series will be until the 24th and all masses will start at 6:30 p.m. The Dec.18 mass will feature Rondalla Christmas which will start at 4 p.m. For more information, call (212) 966-1019.

FAHSI to hold Light-A-Parol at Queens Museum of Art

DEC. 18—Filipino-American Human Services Inc. (FAHSI) will hold its 3rd annual Light A Parol celebration from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Queens Museum of Art located in Flushing Meadow Corona Park, Queens, N.Y. A parol is a colorful Philippine Christmas lantern, usually in the form of a star that represents the star of Bethlehem, and used as Christmas decor throughout the Philippines. The community is invited to sponsor a parol that will be lit on a Christmas tree at the museum. Refreshments will be provided. Dancing Stars of Our Lady of Angelus to hold Christmas party
