Filipino war veterans will be joining veterans of all eras
on Nov. 11 for the Nation’s Parade, commemorating the 60th
anniversary of the end of World War II, in New York City.
Sponsored by the Department of Defense, the City of New
York and the United War Veterans Council of NYC, the
celebration “will honor the WWII generation, recognize all
veterans and currently serving military, and promote the
importance of service to our nation.”
It will be the culminating event of the Department of
Defense’s commemorative activities that are taking place
across the country.
The event will begin with the Eternal Light Monument
Ceremony on Madison Square Park on 23rd Street and Madison
Avenue.
This pre-parade ceremony will be from 10 a.m. to 11
a.m. and will feature speeches by dignitaries and
veterans, laying of memorial wreaths and ceremonial rifle
salute.
It will be followed immediately by the three-hour
Nation’s Parade up 5th Avenue, from 26th Street to 56th
Street.
With estimated 25,000 participants and 750,000
spectators, the parade will showcase National Procession
of States, International Procession of Nations, Veterans
of all eras, active duty military, civic leaders and
organizations; and commemorative floats, marching bands
and vintage vehicles.
A Veteran’s Day fair will be held from noon to 6 p.m.
at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum at Pier 86 on 46th
Street and 12th Avenue.
Free admission for veterans, the fair will have live
music and entertainment, and booths and kiosks for
veterans and other services.
