Kris’ beer commercial said to promote drinking in women

KRIS AQUINO

Kris Aquino is the new celebrity endorser of San Miguel beer. Her TV commercial for the giant conglomerate is a great piece of advertising, the consensus of many. In the commercial Kris shows some cleavage while a manly voice says, “Mahirap humanap ng babaeng katulad niya.” Given Kris’ strong personality, the commercial gives credence to the words “truth in advertising,” says industry types.

But not all is taken by Kris’ commercial. Feminist and religious groups have panned it for its subliminal message encouraging women to drink and to get intoxicated.

But Kris is not bothered by the issue even if her mother, former President Cory Aquino, has been dragged into the mini-controversy somewhat. The rubble rousers wonder how is it that Kris’ mama allowed her to pitch something as sensitive a subject as social drinking, forgetting that Kris is a 30 something adult capable of making her own professional decisions.

The San Miguel commercial is the one famously forbidding Kris to not talk publicly about her love life and her boyfriend (as is her habit) and to not get married through the duration of the commercial.

Also appearing in the commercial is cager Derek Ramsey who is now rumored to be Kris’ newest boyfriend. She says Derek is only her crush obviously to skirt around the stipulations of her San Miguel contract. But many, including friends from media, say that Derek is already Kris’ boyfriend. Last weekend, the two were seen in Cebu City during the promo blitz of ABS-CBN and were observed to be acting like “sila na nga” as one Pilipino Star columnist noted.

Going back to Kris’ San Miguel ad, industry sources say the former first daughter made a huge bundle doing it. “We’re talking several millions here, not just a couple,” says someone purporting to be close to Kris’ agent.

The last show business celebrity endorser of San Miguel was the late Fernando Poe Jr.
