Tracy McGrady
to visit R.P

T-MAC R.P.
BOUND: Tracy McGrady (r.) of the Houston Rockets, regarded
by
many as one of the top players in the National Basketball
ssociation (NBA), is slated to visit the Philippines this
September.
MANILA — The Adidas Streetball Challenge is
celebrating its 10th year in style.
The leading shoe and sports apparel manufacturer is
bringing back National Basketball Association (NBA)
superstar Tracy McGrady as highlight of the
country’s hosting of the Asian Streetball finals to be
held in September.
The visit of the Houston Rocket stalwart will be his
second in the country after similarly gracing the 2000
edition of the meet, an extreme half-court game of street
basketball.
“His coming trip here is very meaningful to us because it
was Mr. McGrady himself who personally chose the Philippines
as one of only two countries he’d like to visit to promote
Adidas. Apparently, he has good memories of his stay here
five years ago,” an elated John Alonte, president and
managing director of Adidas, said.
The summer basketball tournament was formally launched in
the public sports program sponsored by Red.
Bull, Supermax, Circure and Pagcor. Joining Alonte were
Adidas sports marketing manager Goody Custodio, tournament
director Noel Ascue and Carmina Velayo, brand manager of
Globe Gentext which one of the official partners of the
tournament.
McGrady, the former NBA scoring champion, will be
accompanied by fellow Adidas endorsers Joe Smith of the
Milwaukee Bucks and Sebastian Telfair of the Portland
Trailblazers.
